Oblomov is a novel by Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov, included in a trilogy together with “An Ordinary Story” and “An Cliff,” making up its second part. The novel tells the story of Ilya Ilyich Oblomov’s life—an estate gentleman who, together with his faithful servant Zakhar, lives in Saint Petersburg on Gorokhovaya Street. Ilya Ilyich rarely gets up from the sofa. He does nothing, doesn’t go out into society; he only indulges thoughts about how one should live and dreams of a cozy, carefree life in his native estate Oblomovka. At the center of the story is the confrontation with “Oblomovism”—the embodiment of laziness, aimlessness, and real life.
