The story "Nikita" was written in 1945 and published in the magazine "Murzilka" (issues 4 and 7) and in the journal "Novy Mir," issue 7. Throughout the war, Platonov worked as a correspondent for the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda." He witnessed the lives and heroic deeds of Russian soldiers, but what wounded him most were the fates of children during the war. Nikita was not a witness to combat, but the war influenced his child's soul: the boy fears that strangers will take over his yard and home. The war is the culprit behind Nikita's fears.
