Dave Hollis made a fast leap in his career: he was the CEO of a media startup, served as President of Distribution at The Walt Disney Company, and also worked in advertising, research, and technology areas in the entertainment industry. He has eight children, four of whom are adopted. He enjoys collecting sports rarities, runs a lot, and with special pride owns a 1969 Ford Bronco.
But at some point the familiar trajectory went off track: alcohol dependence, difficulties at work, and doubts about his parenting abilities led him into a crisis. He was faced with a choice—either commit to change and step beyond the familiar to become a better version of himself, or leave everything as it was.
In the book “Don’t Stand in Your Way,” Hollis tackles topics he previously avoided: self-examination and personal growth, rejecting self-deception, a clear understanding of your direction, and fighting stereotyped thinking. The author shares practical tools that helped him rebuild his life—and that can help the reader make it better too.
