Karen Horney was a German-American psychologist and psychoanalyst, a student of S. Freud, who developed a new approach to psychoanalysis alongside C. G. Jung and E. Fromm.
"Our Inner Conflicts" is the world's first systematic exposition of the theory of neurosis โ the causes of neurotic conflicts, their development, and treatment. Horney's approach differs radically from the corresponding theories of S. Freud, E. Fromm, A. Adler, and C. Jung in its creative potential, humanism, and optimism. The constructive theory of neurosis developed by the author remains unsurpassed to this day in the breadth and depth of its explanation of neurotic conflicts. It includes an exhaustive classification of neurotic personality types; the main neurotic drives and their connection to the basic conflict; and contains an analysis of all the principal defense mechanisms and methods of genuine resolution of neurotic conflicts.
