"To Oneself Alone" is a collection of thoughts of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, written in Greek in the 70s of the 2nd century. In these aphorisms, he calls for humility and detachment from material goods. His ethical beliefs are similar to the teachings of the Church, and only through self-discipline and calm composure was he able to overcome harsh trials and become an outstanding thinker of his time.
