Vladimir Voinovich’s novel “Moscow 2042” is a satirical dystopia about a writer who finds himself in the future, in Moscow in the year 2042, where communism has by then been built… “Now, recalling that first day of mine in Moscorep, I think that, although so much contradictory and completely unexpected information came crashing down on me at once, I fairly soon began to figure some things out. For example, all by myself, without outside help, I guessed that the word ‘komsor’ means ‘communist associate,’ ‘kompis’ means ‘communist writer,’ the greeting ‘slagen’ stands for ‘Glory to the Genialissimus,’ and as for why instead of ‘Oh God!’ they say ‘Oh Gena!,’ in my opinion, that needs no explanation.”
