The works of Nikolai Gogol belong to the classics of world literature and are studied in educational institutions. His straightforward, lively style is remembered immediately by the reader. The collection of tales "Mirgorod" is considered a continuation of "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka" and is based on Ukrainian folklore. Some characters in the stories reflect Gogol’s own friends and acquaintances from the time when he lived in Ukraine. The collection includes the tales "Old-World Landlords," "Taras Bulba," "Viy," and "The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich."
