Mary Tudor. Bloody Mary

The lecture is about Mary Tudor, who was nicknamed «Bloody» even while she was alive. She was the elder daughter of King Henry VIII and the half-sister of Elizabeth I. Mary differed significantly from Elizabeth. Feeling resentment toward her mother Catherine of Aragon—whom Henry VIII divorced—Mary tried to restore the past. At a time when the church reform and the introduction of Protestantism, begun by her father, were natural steps, she sought to restore the Catholic Church as the only true one. To achieve this goal, Mary used cruel and bloody methods, which had a devastating effect on both her political career and her personal life.
