“Ascension” is the second audiobook in the “Heart of Zondakar” series. Young Aira, having lost her memory as a result of an incident unknown to her and having started life from scratch, tries to find her place in this world. Alas. Aira is by no means a seer, not a legendary maiden-warrior, not a miracle heroine, and certainly not an “isekai heroine.”
The world of Zandokar is her native world, in which, nevertheless, she cannot find her place for a very long time. However, for all her troubles, she does not know how to despair for long or give up. She still believes in miracles. She still has not lost hope. She still, to some extent, remains a naive child whom the horrors of this world have not managed to touch. Being far from a fighter by nature, she copes with difficulties differently — she does not leap over obstacles at once, but carefully goes around them. She does not charge straight ahead or threaten ill-wishers with terrible punishments, promising inevitable retribution, but tries to understand and forgive others’ ignorance. She simply lives as best she can. She tries to listen to and feel this world. She accepts it as it is. She sees with her heart. She breathes in the same instant with it. She does not try to remake it and break it to suit herself.
