Lecture: "Dalí's Mustache"

Lecture: "Dalí's Mustache"

1 hr. 37 min.
Description
When you or your children wake up at night and see how a chair turns into a monster in the dark, and the lamp on the ceiling looks like a bat, don’t worry—you’re not the only ones. The famous Spanish artist Salvador Dalí also experienced similar feelings in childhood. He found a way to overcome his fears by turning them into paintings, and that brought him worldwide fame. We are afraid only of the unknown. Dalí’s works may seem mysterious: shapes supported by crutches, huge grasshoppers, elephants on thin legs, fish growing out of pomegranates, tigers from fish, and a rifle from tigers. There’s no need to be afraid or to cover children’s eyes when they see naked figures. In a lecture at the «Prямaя речь» lecture hall, we’ll explore Salvador Dalí’s worlds together to find and understand familiar images. We’ll discuss the symbolism of his works, play with it, learn how he tamed his creativity, what surrealism is, where the master’s famous mustache is now, and watch a cartoon created by Dalí together with Disney.
