Lecture: 'Normal and Abnormal in Child Development'

Are there really "ordinary" children and parents—and where do they come from? The concept of "normality" has a significant impact on our parenting decisions. Every day we make choices about how to act toward a child based on what we consider normal for their development. This process becomes more complicated due to the many opinions about how to raise children properly. Should you follow family traditions? Or the methods proven by grandmothers and grandfathers? Should you listen to authors of modern early-development programs? How do you choose between Japanese or French approaches when they have different advantages? How do you raise children who seem special, such as "indigo" children? How not to get lost in this variety of views on parenting and form your own "normal"? Is it possible to create a better approach by combining different methods, especially when they sometimes contradict each other? Or is it better to look for your own path as a parent, without being torn between a multitude of "right" and "wrong" decisions?
