The novel “Legend of Montrose” tells of the uprising of Count Montrose in 1645 and of the struggle of Scottish Highlanders for independence from foreign English rule. At a time when England became the arena of battles between the king’s loyal regiments and the forces of Parliament, Scotland is also split into two camps. The king’s supporter, Count Montrose, manages to unite warring clans in order to fight against the troops of the self-serving Marquis Argyll, who represented the interests of the Scottish Parliament.
