He has been through a lot, and so he believes: women are, by their very nature, self-interested and sell themselves—only the question is how much they’ll be offered. There is, in his opinion, no such thing as love: it’s a fiction and a convenient lever that calculating women use to control simple-minded men. And getting angry at their lies and game, he thinks, is pointless—that’s just their nature.
But she isn’t in the mood for novels and loud conclusions about men right now: she needs to work and support the family so there’s something to live on. Yet she still believes that one day she will meet the one and only—then everything that’s dreamed of will appear: love and trust, emotional closeness and bright passion. It will happen—otherwise it can’t be.
