"The Medium’s Student" is a fantasy novel by Alex Kosh, the first book in the "Fist of the Southern Star" series, genre: battle fantasy, urban fantasy, dark fantasy. By the will of one annoying old man, after my death I found myself in an alternative reality that arose after the world’s axis shifted in 1943. Here too it’s the 21st century, but the development of science and technology has taken a slightly different path thanks to the appearance of magical creatures, mystical rituals, and supernatural abilities. In this world, computers have to be protected with rune bindings from ghosts; in houses live house spirits; and city residents fend off creatures that occasionally break through from the dimension of Limbo. Children are taught from almost infancy to use supernatural abilities if they have them, and the best of them are trained for elite squads of defenders of the world. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them, because the only thing I can do is see ghosts. But any abilities can be developed, and the medium’s craft isn’t the worst way to begin in a new world. Especially since my new family is in danger, and, as the annoying grandpa assures me, only I can help them.
