In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Anatole invites friends to his anniversary at his mansion in Wiltshire. As the host, he suggests they entertain themselves with the game "Motive. Method. Death." It’s simple: each participant, blindfolded, draws two names from those present—the presumed killer and the presumed victim—and writes a short detective story. There’s one rule: the plot must be plausible and must end with a murder— the trickier and more unusual, the better.
But this time the murders have to happen here and now—in these weekend days and within these walls. As they begin their stories, friends turn against one another everything they know: other people’s weaknesses, old grudges, unpleasant secrets, and behind-the-scenes intrigues.
