Hello, Sidney. What’s your favorite scary movie?
Since you’ve turned on this episode, it means you already guessed: it’s dedicated to “Scream 4,” the fourth chapter of the famous slasher franchise about the merciless killer in the Ghostface mask. For the film’s creator—iconic director, screenwriter, and producer Wes Craven—this movie became his final work not only within the “Scream” series, but also the last directorial project of his career.
In the episode, we discuss the fourth part in detail: we recall our first encounter with Craven’s work and the “Scream” franchise, break down the film and its key themes, note its strengths and weaknesses—each host has their own—determine what place “Scream 4” occupies in the overall series history, and debate how well the film has stood the test of time and whether it remains relevant today. During this bloody return to Woodsboro, Denis Starostin joined us—author of “World of Fantasy” and creator of the Telegram channel “Denis, advise me.”
The episode is timed for several occasions at once: this year the “Scream” franchise turns 30, and at the end of February in the US (and in early March in Russia) “Scream 7” goes into theaters. The recording was made as part of the “Podcastosaurs” collaboration—an association of pop-culture podcasts in different formats: film, series, games, and comics. Specifically for the collaboration, each participant prepared a separate episode dedicated to one of the films in the series.
