A detective thriller set in a gloomy “Russian realty” world, inheriting the traditions of Dostoevsky’s psychological novel. A story with legends of the Russian outback in the spirit of Dmitry Mordas’s “The Little Bitch” and Mariam Petrosyan’s cult teenage trilogy “The House in Which.” After her parents divorce, eighteen-year-old Nastya—used to a luxurious life in a megacity—moves to a provincial town. Her only friend becomes Arina, a star of the local institute. Their friendship continues until Arina is found dead at the foot of the Screaming Tower—a mysterious old house shrouded in dark legends. Soon, just beside the Tower, the girls’ ill-wishers begin to die one after another. Rumors say a vengeful ghost has appeared in the town… And then Nastya takes up the investigation, not only wanting to find the one pretending to be her dead friend, but also to preserve her secrets at any cost. After all, only Nastya knows that behind the mask of a good girl there was an intriguer ready to go over heads for her goals.
“Detective fiction steeped in secrets of Russian panel blocks and in the mysteries of their residents. This is a story where you’ll travel with the heroes from a crime that corrodes the soul to a punishment that is far scarier than death…” — Amaliya Lik, writer
