1987. Moscow. Major Sergey Tikhonov, the senior officer of the Second Main Directorate, receives an ultra-secret assignment: to take part in a large-scale operation to stop the actions of foreign special services and to identify spies and traitors—including among high-ranking officers of our legitimate foreign intelligence establishment. Work on your own side—whether it’s traitors from intelligence or from counterintelligence—is delicate and labor-intensive. Especially when it concerns a KGB major general and his informant under the operational pseudonym “Kraken,” suspected of long-term work for American intelligence. Fortunately, Sergey Tikhonov and his colleague Nikolay Trophimov already have experience in successfully exposing a traitor within the ranks of the KGB—so the operatives are brought in for this new, complicated, and very sensitive case.
