A terrible “Day of the Barricades” is at hand. At the head of the barricades stand the Duchess of Montpensier and her brother, the Duke of Guise. The Guise brothers, persistent in their pursuit of the crown, do everything to discredit Henry III. Henry III, seeing the strength of the Guise factions, orders that he be killed. This murder окончательно breaks Henry III’s ties with the Catholic party, and he enters into an alliance with Henry of Navarre. The League faces great danger, but then the Dominican monk Jacques Clément kills Henry III with a dagger. This event opens the way for Henry of Navarre to the French throne.
