The Shell of Sense. Gothic Stories

Early 20th-century American writer and journalist Olivia Howard Dunbar served as an editor at a newspaper, took an active part in the movement for women’s suffrage, and was keenly interested in the mysterious and supernatural in literature. After leaving her editorial post, she devoted herself to writing and published stories in the largest American magazines. This collection of gothic stories is an excellent example of the “ghost stories”—dark, atmospheric tales that will delight fans of Edgar Allan Poe, Edith Wharton, H. P. Lovecraft, and Shirley Jackson. These stories have not previously been translated into Russian: the translation was done by members of the workshop “Translation from English for Continuing Students” of Creative Writing School.
