Taylor Ebert is an ordinary girl who isn’t popular at school, but she has a secret: she has a superpower. Of course, she isn’t the only one in the world with a secret like that (and for some, it’s not a secret at all). People with powers are generally divided into heroes and villains, as well as neutral loners. Costumes, masks, nicknames instead of names, unwritten rules, politics, and dirty tricks are all part of it. On one of her first excursions in a costume, Taylor is mistakenly taken for a villain, which throws her into a world of constant conflict between good and evil—where villains can do socially useful things and even save the world, and heroes aren’t always as pure as they want to seem. All Taylor can count on is new friends, a clear head, and an unusual superpower that lets her control insects.
