The Caribbean requiem can be considered one of Brigitte Aubert’s most exciting novels. The plot unfolds on a tropical island in the Caribbean Sea. The beginning of the story gives the main character, private detective Leroy Dagober, a playboy and surfer, no hint of any complications. On the contrary! The beautiful mulatto woman who hires the detective to find her father is surprisingly wonderful. A real fashion model! She does, however, have a terrible temper and very dangerous friends—but what of it? The matter is simple, after all. Dag goes for this job, not suspecting that he is perhaps making the biggest mistake of his life. On the paradise island of Saint-Martin, he is waiting for a real blood-soaked nightmare and the quick realization that this “innocent” investigation has everything to do with his own person.
In this thriller, under a piquant sauce, the ingredients are carefully selected, measured out, and well prepared, giving the story the taste of hell. With the Caribbean Requiem, Ober once again confirms her reputation as a master of tense anticipation. With her characteristic talent for storytelling, the writer sustains the intrigue until the very end. The author skillfully piled up a bunch of riddles, as if scattering pieces of a puzzle that by the end of the book will come together into a picture-solution. And all of this against the backdrop of the Caribbean islands and an approaching cyclone.
