Ears Under Your Sickle

The Dnieper region, mid-19th century. The abolition of serfdom is being prepared; the traditional way of life changes, and Belarusian national self-awareness grows. In this setting, the young prince Aleś Zagorsky grows and strengthens. His upbringing and innate nobility lead him to an understanding of the need for change, to friendship with people who are ready to fight against tsarist autocracy. One of the heroes of the book is Kastus Kalinovsky, who later will become the leader of the 1863–1864 uprising in Belarus and Lithuania.
