Cain and Artyom

His Jewish name was Chaim, but everyone called him Cain. That was more convenient: it sounded more familiar, it was easier to pronounce, and it had a hint of mockery and humiliation. Even though it didn’t at all fit his small, timid, emaciated look, people still thought that this was how you could accurately—and offensively—describe both his appearance and his character.
