1914. Law student Dasha Bulavina moves from Samara to St. Petersburg and settles with her older sister Yekaterina and her husband—successful lawyer Nikolay Smokovnikov. In their home, bright and unusual people often gather; among them is the poet Alexey Bessonov. He impresses Dasha and captivates her with revolutionary views. Trying to stay closer to the person she cares about, Dasha starts going to “Philosophical Evenings,” where opposition-minded participants debate the state of affairs in Russia on the eve of the revolution.
