June 1939. In France, there is an operative of Soviet special services, Artëm Kolchugin, who carried out secret missions in war-torn Spain. In one of the last battles he was seriously wounded, and after being taken away unconscious by his Argentine friend, Claudia, he was brought to France to keep him away from the war. All Kolchugin’s thoughts are consumed by one thing: shortly before his injury, he learned that in Moscow he is considered a traitor. There is an order—arrest him and deliver him to Moscow. If it’s impossible to deliver him, destroy him on the spot, given his special danger.
Kolchugin sees only one solution: arrive in Moscow and prove his innocence. He realizes that the order issued by the NKVD makes his return home unimaginably complicated, so he must find help…
