Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky (1823–1886) is a Russian playwright whose work became an essential stage in the development of the Russian national theater.
The action of the play “The Storm” takes place in summer in the fictional town of Kalinov on the banks of the Volga. In the Kabanov family, “domostroi” rules prevail; everything is run by Tikhon’s mother, Marfa Ignatyevna Kabanova.
