Gromov. Stalingrad.

October 1942. Airborne major Aleksey Gromov comes to his senses in the waters of the Volga—in a чужой body, with чужие documents, right in the middle of the Battle of Stalingrad.

No assignment, no mission. He can’t change the course of the war, and he isn’t trying. He knows one thing—fighting—and here, at last, there’s a place to do it for real.

While his squad holds positions in a shattered city where every district changes hands, Gromov learns how to live in someone else’s era: to speak in a slightly different language, to trust people he’ll soon lose, and not to explain what cannot be explained. On the other side of the front line works Krais—just as professional, just as cold-headed. They read each other by traces even before they see each other’s faces.
