Helen’s life is perfect: a husband who is an architect, a wonderful Victorian-style house, a close-knit family, and a long-awaited pregnancy after many unsuccessful attempts. In the happy anticipation of motherhood, she enrolls in a prenatal course in her neighborhood, where she meets Rachel—her complete opposite: loud, extravagant, and lonely. For some reason, Rachel draws Helen to herself terribly, but soon the friendship that is just beginning starts to scare her. The new friend seems to always be there by “accident,” turns up unexpectedly for a visit, and knows—apparently—every little detail about Helen and her family. Events move fast, taking the most dangerous turns, and soon it becomes unclear who is the criminal and who is the victim in this strange and tangled game.
