Patrick Süskind is one of the most popular writers of the 20th century. True, he is often referred to as the author of just one novel—“Perfume.” But after reading this book, the reader will easily see that this opinion is mistaken.
Under one cover there are the novella “The Dove” (a “small masterpiece of prose”), four comparatively short but undeniably interesting stories, and the play “The Double Bass”—Süskind’s first work, in which the theme of the “small man” is raised. Here the author reveals himself as an outstanding psychologist, a master of mystification, a person with a refined sense of humor and rare imagination.
