The Golem

The Golem

Description
With flickers, afterglow, and surges of flame—whether it is the little tongue of a candle’s flame reflected, or the black-burgundy mouth of the blaze—this novel is illuminated: “Golem.”

It begins with the words “moonlight,” reaches its climax in the chapter “The Moon,” and ends with a description of the mysterious Hermaphrodite with rabbit ears—the very one who, according to Chinese beliefs, grinds the elixir of immortality on the Moon. And all the space of the narrative, drenched in this ambiguous moonlight, flares up again and again with sparks of different strength and hue; slowly growing brighter, they finally merge into a sacrificial bonfire that scorches the ghostly earthly essence of the novel’s heroes and carries them into the imperishable world of the otherworldly.
