Academician Uglov was not only a great surgeon of the twentieth century, but also a talented writer who left behind a rich scientific and literary legacy. He lived a very eventful and long life; until his very last days he preserved his health, clear mind, and strength. Fyodor Grigorievich Uglov became the only surgeon in the world who performed operations at the age of 100. All of Fyodor Grigorievich’s life is an invaluable testimony to a doctor’s courage, selflessness, and kindness. Stubbornly—and sometimes with almost no hope of success—he fought against death and disease, and his main goal was always to preserve human life.
Academician Uglov is remembered not only as a doctor and writer, but also as a public figure. Starting in 1981, he continuously campaigned against drunkenness and tobacco use and promoted a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps it was precisely these values that helped the great doctor live to be 103 and become a Person whom you want to emulate! The book includes unique photographs provided by the “Foundation for the Preservation and Development of the Legacy of Academician F. G. Uglov.”
