To recognize your own purpose and follow it—that isn’t the main goal of our whole lives, is it? It was so thousands of years ago, and it will be so forever. Some people search for answers near at hand, in their immediate surroundings. Others set off to the farthest, unexplored places. For the main character of the book “Heretic,” there is no other path but to go deep into space. His native planet will never provide the answers that hide in the cosmic darkness.
He is Gabriel, and the only thing he remembers is his own name. After that—emptiness. Gabriel is not human, but he doesn’t even know who he really is. Perhaps he is an all-powerful alien being destined for some important purpose… Or maybe he is just another traveler among millions. Too many questions. In this situation, it’s not as terrible to remain without answers. Much worse is where those answers might ultimately lead: to the salvation of humankind—or to its uncontrolled destruction.
