The activities of the Society of Traveling Art Exhibitions were invariably guided by those who carefully preserved the principles and ideology of “Peredvizhniki.” For a long time, this function was carried out by the Council formed from founding members. After it was dissolved, leadership passed to the Board—more precisely, to separate representatives who were the most devoted to the cause of the Society and possessed recognized authority. One of those figures—and, in recent years, effectively the only one—was Dubovskoy: he deeply absorbed the traditions of the association and firmly defended its interests.
