California, present day. On a late spring evening, Moroccan immigrant Driss Guerroui is killed at an intersection under the wheels of a car… This death unexpectedly connects the fates of people who, it seemed, had nothing in common: his daughter, a widow torn between starting a new life and longing for home, an undocumented witness who is in panic fear of deportation, an Iraq War veteran, a detective carrying unspoken family secrets, and a neighbor searching for a path toward reconciliation.
Gradually, as each of them begins to speak for themselves, it becomes clear that despite all their racial, religious, and social differences, invisible threads draw them to one another. And when it turns out what really happened to Driss Guerroui, long-guarded secrets come to light, exposing the hypocrisy of a small town—and, against all odds, opening the way to a new love.
