An unusual study at the intersection of advanced 3D solutions and careful examination of the legacy of Ancient Egypt. The author reconstructed the original appearance of Queen Nefertari’s tomb and interpreted the content of its wall paintings, helping to understand the ancient Egyptians’ ideas about the world.
Andrei Plaksin is an independent researcher and expert in architectural 3D visualization, a participant in the international museum community ICOM. The first time he saw photographs of this monument was at a lecture on Egyptology—he was struck by Nefertari’s tomb and wanted not just to imagine it, but to see its former look using 3D technologies.
As the modeling work progressed, his desire to understand ancient Egyptian worldview even more deeply grew: to study their language, history, and art; to interpret the scenes and texts being restored. The result of years of work is the book you hold in your hands: it is dedicated to the queen who found rest in her “house of eternity.” Through its pages, readers will learn about the historical and cultural context of Ancient Egypt, find out about approaches and difficulties in conserving the royal burial site, and be able to trace the program of the tomb’s paintings.
