Warsaw, 1940. The Jewish ghetto is under strict Nazi control. Hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children slowly die of starvation within these walls. And while despair reigns all around, one person brings hope and tirelessly cares for the ever-growing number of destitute children.
Students Misha and Sofia help Janusz Korczak in his House of Orphans. But life in the ghetto becomes even more dangerous, and the young people have to stand against circumstances on their own, hoping that someday they’ll be able to find each other again. And Doctor Korczak, refusing to leave the children behind, will go all the way into the depths of terrible, inhuman darkness.
Based on a real story, this novel is about the outstanding Polish educator and doctor Janusz Korczak, who died together with his wards in Treblinka.
