The Black Pirates of Barsoom

John Carter, his granddaughter Lana, and their new friend Nay a Dan Chi successfully leave the ancient Horca, and decide to go to Gatol. Of course, a walk of more than a thousand and a half years on foot is a dubious pleasure. And besides, fleeing from green-skinned warriors, the group ends up in Kamtol—a city hidden in a valley. The inhabitants of Kamtol are black descendants of Barsum’s pirates, notable for their cruelty. Our heroes are captured and become slaves.
