There is no point in retelling Natan Eidelman’s books. They must be read. Especially this one — “Big Jeannot,” dedicated to Pushkin’s “priceless friend,” the Decembrist Ivan Pushchin. Perhaps this is the most “novelistic” of all Eidelman’s historical books. It is about the fact that there is no freedom without personality and vice versa. It is a narrative about how to “build” oneself and one’s destiny beautifully and with dignity, to be an “artist in strength.” Though perhaps you will read something entirely different in “Big Jeannot.” This wise book is so multifaceted that everyone will find pages in it meant personally for them and … about themselves.
