The White Poodle

The audio book “The White Poodle” by the MediaBook studio presents a work by Alexander Kuprin, a well-known Russian writer. The story tells of the adventures of an old organ-grinder, a boy named Seryozha, and their faithful poodle Arto. The story has been adapted for film twice: the first film, “The White Poodle,” was shot at the Odessa Film Studio in 1955, and the second, “Audience Favorite,” was released in 1985 with support from CentrNauchFilm. The audio book was narrated by actress and radio host Maya Romanova. The narration describes how a small traveling troupe went along the southern coast of Crimea, moving along narrow mountain paths from one cottage settlement to another. Arto—the white poodle, trimmed like a lion—ran ahead with his tongue out, stopping at crossroads and confidently choosing the way. Behind him followed twelve-year-old Seryozha with an acrobatics mat and a cage with a goldfinch, from which he drew predictions from a box. The procession was led by Grandpa Martyn Lodyzhkin, carrying the organ-grinder on his back.
