Plato, a master of artistic language, created and brought to perfection the dialogues as a literary genre. These Dialogues are a true masterpiece of ancient Greek prose. They reveal many-sided aspects of the philosopher’s worldview—his understanding of dialectics and knowledge—but all of this is part of Plato’s teaching.
The themes of the dialogues differ. In «Protagoras», we see a magnificent display of a debate between famous philosophers of Athens. In «Phaedrus», inspired love is shown from a new angle. «Apology of Socrates» conveys a defense speech in the court of Athenian democracy. «Criton» presents Socrates as someone who sets the duty of a citizen and the philosopher above his own life.
