Anton Chekhov. The Duel Performed by Dmitry Bykov + Bykov's Lecture

In late 1888 Chekhov wrote to his publisher A. S. Suvorin: “Ah, what a story I started! I’m writing on the theme of love. I chose a feuilleton-fiction form. A decent man takes his wife from a decent man and writes his opinion about it; he lives with her—the opinion; they part—again, an opinion. I briefly mention the theater, the prejudice of ‘dissimilarity of convictions,’ the Georgian Military Road, family life, the modern intelligentsia’s inability to live like this, Pechorin, Onegin, Kazbek.”
