Documents about the origins of Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov — who led the Committee for State Security for fifteen years and then headed our entire country for just over a year — his questionnaires and autobiographies, birth certificate, school diploma, information about his parents, grandmothers and grandfathers, references and character assessments were kept in the most secret archive of the state.
Only two people had access to the documents — the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the all-powerful head of the General Department of the Central Committee. Only those two — and no one else! — even knew that the Politburo archive contained several folders concerning Andropov's childhood, adolescence, and youth, a period he began under very unfavorable circumstances.
Unlike many other secret folders, these documents have been declassified. We now have the opportunity to unravel the secrets of this man who had such a profound influence on the fate of our country.
